For years, the Rotary Club of Mechanicsville has sold peanuts to local businesses and individuals. The proceeds for these sales have gone to fund many different things throughout the community. Our current beneficiary is an incredible program brought to us by the Hanover County Sheriffs Office.

Here is some information about the Project Lifesaver Program and Hanover County's participation:

In 2003, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office became the first agency in the state to join Project Lifesaver International. The program offers the ability for the Hanover County Sheriff's Office to locate loved ones and family members who wander due to cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, and Down syndrome.

As a free service to the community, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office will outfit a client with a watch-sized transmitter. The transmitter enables the client to be tracked should the individual wander. We understand locating lost individuals in these populations is paramount and are pleased to make this service available to the citizens of Hanover County.

Founded in 1992, the club is the lead organizer of the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade. The club also works with the Hanover Sheriff's Department to provide Thanksgiving Baskets for the needy, Helps fund the Hanover Sheriff Office's Project Lifesaver, has helped build a Habitat House, partners with Mechanicsville Elementary School to ensure no child goes hungry and helps promote a healthy community through many other fundraising and volunteer activities.

A Foreign Exchange program through Rotary International rounds out the clubs activities locally and globally.
