Eukonkanto 2010
The Wife Carrying Race
Postponed
With great disappointment, we are postponing Eukonkanto 2010, the Wife Carrying Race, slated for this Saturday, June 12 at The Meadow Event Park.
The race garnered a great deal of interest. However, we were not able to register enough race contestants to make the event succeed for its beneficiaries, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators.
We will have discussions with potential race contestants in the next few weeks to see why we came up short on registrations. We believe strongly that the beneficiaries were worthy and we certainly had strong community support through event and contestant sponsorships. We need enough “husbands” and “wives” who were willing to endure a 277-yard course, only a minute and one-half of sweat, for a chance at winning a sizeable dinner gift certificate from Legend Brewing.
We would welcome your feedback and we hope you will continue to offer your support for this event. With a little extra perseverance, we’ll make this a successful event, perhaps early this fall.
In the meantime, I invite you to visit the website of the Families of the Wounded Fund and watch the video that describes the history and purpose of the fund. The military is helping the wounded soldiers. The fund is helping families of the soldiers.
